Scheikh al-Islam ibn Taymiyah (rahimahullah) sagte: „Sie (die Engel) vernehmen einen guten Geruch (wenn der Mensch über eine gute Tat nachdenkt, wie von Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah berichtet wurde) oder einen schlechten Geruch. Doch die Teufel brauchen einen solchen Geruch nicht, um Bescheid zu wissen. Sie wissen, was im Herzen des Sohnes von Adam ist, und sie sehen und hören, was er zu sich selbst sagt. Weiterhin hat der Satan Einblick in das Herz des Menschen, denn wenn dieser Allahs gedenkt, dann zieht er sich zurück, und wenn er es vernachlässigt, Allahs zu gedenken, dann flüstert er ihm ein. Er weiß, ob der Mensch Allahs gedenkt oder es vernachlässigt, und er kennt die Gelüste und Begierden seines Herzen und lässt sie ihm attraktiv erscheinen. Es ist in al-Sahih belegt, in dem Hadith von Safiyyah (radiAllahu anha), dass der Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam) sagte: „Der Schaytan fließt durch den Sohn Adams wie dessen Blut." Die Nähe der Engel und des Schaytan zum Herzen des Sohnes von Adam ist etwas, das durch viele Überlieferungen bestätigt wird, sei der Mensch nun ein Mu'min oder nicht." Majmu' al-Fatawa, 5/508 Scheikh ibn Baz (rahimahullah) wurde in einer längeren Fragestellung gefragt: „Wenn ich im Herzen etwas Gutes zu tun beabsichtige, weiß der Schaytan dann davon und versucht mich abzuhalten?" Er antwortete: „Jeder Mensch hat einen Teufel und einen Engel bei sich, wie der Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam) sagte: 'Es gibt niemanden, der nicht einen Gefährten von den Jinn und einen Gefährten von den Engeln bei sich hat.' Die Leute fragten: 'Selbst du, oh Gesandter Allahs?' Er antwortete: 'Selbst ich, doch Allah half mir und er wurde Muslim (oder: und ich bin sicher vor ihm), sodass er mich nur zum Guten aufruft.' Und er (sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam) informierte uns darüber, dass der Schaytan dem Menschen Übles einflüstert und ihn zum Schlechten aufruft und dass er Aufsicht über sein Herz hat. Er kann – durch Allahs Willen – sehen, was der Mensch will und beabsichtigt an guten und schlechten Taten. Der Engel hat auch etwas Kontrolle über sein Herz, wodurch er sich dem Guten zuneigt. Diese Kontrolle ist etwas, das Allah ihnen gegeben hat, d. h., Er hat den Gefährten von den Jinn und von den Engeln etwas Macht gegeben. Selbst der Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam) hatte einen Schaytan bei sich, nämlich den Gefährten von den Jinn, wie in dem vorherigen Hadith erwähnt wurde. Wichtig ist in diesem Zusammenhang, dass jeder Mensch einen Gefährten von den Engeln und einen Gefährten von den Satanen bei sich hat. Der Mu'min unterdrückt seinen Schaytan, indem er Allah gehorsam ist und sich an Seine Religion hält, und er erniedrigt seinen Schaytaan, bis dieser schwach wird und ihn nicht mehr vom Verrichten guter Dinge abhalten oder ihn zum Übel verführen kann außer dem, was Allah will. Doch der Sünder hilft seinem Schaytan durch seine Sünden und schlechten Taten, bis der Schaytan stark genug ist, um ihn zum falschen Weg zu verleiten, und ihn ermutigt, damit fortzufahren, und ihn abhält, Gutes zu tun. Der Mu'min muss Allah fürchten und sich darum bemühen, dem Schaytan zu widerstehen, indem er Allah und Seinem Gesandten gehorcht und bei Allah Zuflucht sucht vor dem Schaytan. Er sollte sich auch darum bemühen, seinen Engel im Gehorsam Allah und Seinem Gesandten gegenüber zu unterstützen und den Befehlen Allahs Folge zu leisten."
