(32:24) Es ist durch den Glauben, dass wir die Wirklichkeit von Allahs Befehlen und Verboten, von Belohnung und Bestrafung kennen und durch Geduld, dass wir Seine Anweisungen ausführen und uns von dem, was Er verboten hat fernhalten. Deshalb ist die Geduld die Hälfte von iman und die andere Hälfte ist Dankbarkeit. Der Mensch hat zwei Kräfte, die Kraft zu tun und die Kraft des Enthaltens, welche sein ganzes Verhalten kontrolliert. Also tut eine Person was sie will und enthält sich von dem, was sie nicht will. Die Gesamtheit der Religion tut oder enthält sich, führt die Anweisungen Allahs aus oder enthält sich dessen, was Er verboten hat, keines von diesen kann vollendet werden ohne Geduld. Die Gesamtheit der Religion ist Hoffnung und Furcht und der wahre Gläubige ist derjenige, der beides ist, hoffnungsvoll und ängstlich. Allah sagt (in der ungefähren Bedeutung): „...und sie riefen Uns in Hoffnung und in Furcht an und waren demütig vor Uns." (21:90) Der Prophet, Friede und Segen Allahs auf ihm, pflegte zu beten: „O Allah, Dir habe ich meine Seele ergeben und mein Dir habe ich mein Gesicht zugewendet. Meine (eigenen) Angelegenheiten überlasse ich Allah und ich suche Deinen Schutz in Hoffnung auf Dich und Furcht vor Dir." (al-Bukhari).
