Amena, die Mutter Muhammads nahm Umm Aiman, die Dienerin, die 'Abdullah, der Vater Muhammads, zurückgelassen hatte, mit sich nach Al-Madina. Als sie dort waren, zeigte sie dem Jungen, wo sein Vater gestorben und begraben war. Dies war das erste Gefühl von Verwaistsein, das sich in der Seele des Jungen einprägte. Vielleicht erzählte ihm seine Mutter ausführlich von diesem geliebten Vater, der sie nach wenigen Tagen, die er mit ihr verlebt hatte, verließ und bei seinen Onkeln vom Tod überrascht wurde. Der Prophet erzählte nach der Hidschra seinen Gefährten die Geschichte dieser ersten Reise mit seiner Mutter nach Al-Madina und die Geschichte dessen, der Al- Madina liebte und um seine Angehörigen, die in den dortigen Gräbern lagen, trauerte. Als sie sich in Yathrib einen vollen Monat aufgehalten hatten, entschloß sich Amena zur Rückkehr, und sie, Umm Aiman und Muhammad ritten auf ihren beiden Kamelen, auf denen sie von Makka gekommen waren. Auf dem Weg zwischen den beiden Städten wurde Amena bei Al-Abwa' krank; sie starb und wurde dort begraben. Umm Aiman kehrte mit dem weinenden und alleingelassenen Kind zurück. Er empfand das doppelte Ausmaß seines Verwaistseins, und das Gefühl der Einsamkeit und des Schmerzes nahm zu. Wenige Tage zuvor hatte er bei seiner Mutter den Schmerz über den Verlust seines Vaters vor seiner Geburt erfahren. Und nun mußte er mit eigenen Augen den Tod seiner Mutter erleben, und daß sie seinen kleinen Körper zurückließ, der die Last des vollständigen Verwaistseins zu tragen hatte. Dies ließ die Zuneigung des Großvaters für ihn noch mehr wachsen. Dennoch grub sich die Erinnerung an sein Verwaistsein als ein tiefer Schmerz in seine Seele ein.
